Common Bathtub Problems and Solutions

With so many fixtures, the bathroom can be home to many plumbing issues and headaches. A leak is bound to occur eventually, and some of the worst leaks involve the bathtub.

In many cases, bathtub leaks can go undetected until it is too late—plus the moisture can foster mildew growth.  Instead of letting bathtub leaks become a more serious issue, here are some tips from our plumbers at Integrity Home Solutions to solve these problems quickly.

Common Bathtub Problems and Solutions

These are some of the most common bathtub problems that we come across at Integrity Home Solutions:

Plumbing Problem #1: Tub Faucet Leak

With so many fixtures and pipes in your bathroom, it can be difficult to identify the true source of a leak. A bathtub faucet leak is one of the most common issues in the bathroom and one of the easiest issues to fix.

Many faucet leaks are caused by an aging rubber washer inside the faucet assembly, which dries out over time. If you disassemble the faucet, you can easily replace them. If new washers don’t fix the issue, you’ll likely need to replace the entire faucet assembly.

Don’t wait to fix leaks, they can end up costing you more money than it would take to fix the issue.

If you cannot troubleshoot these plumbing issues on your own, Integrity Home Solutions is available 24/7 to help diagnose all your bathroom plumbing issues. Call us today—813-473-6007

Plumbing Problem #2: Tub Drain Leak

A leak from your bathtub drain could be caused by a plumbing issue below the drain and will likely require a plumber’s assistance to fix it. It is also possible that the leak is caused by a faulty or broken seal around the drain assembly.

This problem can easily be fixed by removing the drain and applying new plumbers’ putty around the drain area. If you are unsure about how to remove the drain, call in our pros at Integrity Home Solutions to help.

Plumbing Problem #3: Low Water Pressure

If there is low water pressure coming from your showerhead, check to see if it is still low when you switch from cold to hot water.

If it has low pressure when switching between the two, it means that there may be mineral buildup in the faucet aerator or the faucet cartridge that is blocking the water flow.

Tampa Bay is notorious for having hard water, so this is a common problem. If you have a removable aerator, take it out and place it in vinegar overnight. If the aerator does not detach easily, you can soak the faucet or showerhead in a bag of vinegar.

If this does not solve the low water pressure problem, call a professional plumber from Integrity Home Solutions, and we will pull the cartridges and check the water pressure at the water meter.

Plumbing Problem #4: Mold

Sometimes no matter how often you clean, mildew always seems to find its way back to your bathroom.

Bathroom mildew can be caused by:

  • Lingering moisture due to poor ventilation
  • Leaky toilets, sinks, or pipes
  • Damp materials such as rugs, towels, etc.

If you have a mildew problem in your bathtub, strip away and replace the caulk or sealant that has mold. Clean your bathroom with bleach, vinegar, or hydrogen peroxide—just don’t mix these products as they can cause a toxic reaction.

Open windows and doors when cleaning to provide fresh air and help dry everything out. Always use the ventilation fan when showering and change out damp towels for fresh ones regularly.
