Get the Best Results from Your New HVAC

Follow these tips to ensure that your new <a href="https://www.homeofintegrity.com/2023/01/04/hvac-system-efficiency/" title="<strong>What Makes an HVAC System Efficient?HVAC system works optimally year-round!

#1. Change Your Filters Regularly

Air filters are a vital component of your heating and cooling system, as they remove bacteria and harmful particles from the air.

By replacing filters regularly—at least every 30 to 60 days—your family will breathe fresher air, and your HVAC will run efficiently.

Clogged air filters can damage your air conditioner’s parts and result in costly repairs. Not something you want to deal with, especially when it could have been easily avoided!

#2. Routine Maintenance is Key

Regular service will decrease the number of emergency repairs and boost your AC’s performance. Remember, like your car, your heating and cooling system will not last long without regular maintenance.

You can also do a bit of maintenance on your own.

  • Blow or sweep away leaves or debris from the outside condenser unit
  • Cut back branches or vines
  • Visually inspect the wiring for any damage

Pro Tip: If you can’t remember to call for maintenance, put it on the calendar once in the spring and again in the fall, or sign up for our Preferred Partner Plan!

#3. Allow for Proper Airflow

Make certain that air vents throughout your home aren’t blocked by furniture or other items. We also recommend cleaning your air ducts regularly with a vacuum and having them deep cleaned by a professional cleaning service when needed—usually every three to five years.

#4. Adjust Your Thermostat

When using your heating and cooling system, you can reduce the wear and tear to its components by raising the thermostat a few degrees.

We may have suggested this at installation, but having a programmable thermostat is a good idea. It allows you to automatically control the temperature in your home, wherever you are, from your smartphone.

#5. Make Your Home Energy Efficient

There are numerous ways to make your home more energy efficient, thus helping your HVAC run at peak performance.

  • Close your curtains and windows during the hottest parts of the day.
  • Seal doors and windows to prevent air leaks.
  • Utilize ceiling fans to distribute air throughout your space.
  • Dry clothing at night when the outside temperature is cooler or hang it to dry outside.

#6. Give Your System Some Rest

Your new HVAC system will last longer the less it runs. Most HVAC systems have two fan settings:

  • “Auto” means that the fan only operates when the unit is actively cooling or heating.
  • “On” means that the fan runs all the time.

While the “On” position may seem like the better choice as it circulates air consistently, it can make your system work harder and cause more wear and tear to components.

When the weather permits, open the windows and use fans, and at the very least set your thermostat to “Auto.”
