When you are experiencing a plumbing emergency you may not have time to properly vet potential plumbing companies. You may be panicked and pick the first plumbing company that can come out—which may work out okay—or it might end in exorbitant fees and/or poor workmanship. Unlike us, not all plumbing companies are built on transparency and integrity, and finding the right one can be stressful during an urgent time.
Even if you find yourself in a plumbing crisis, make sure to take an extra 3 minutes on the phone to ask a couple of extra questions. This time may save you lots of headaches and money later on!
Next time you are looking for a plumber, make sure to ask these 5 important questions before giving someone the go-ahead to work:
Are you Licensed?
This is probably one of the most important questions you can ask a potential plumbing company. This is for your protection as a homeowner. If there are any injuries or accidents while on the job on your property, they will assume liability and expenses, not you!
Make sure to ask for their license number and you should do a quick search to make sure their license is still in good standing. Just because they provide you a license number does not mean it is valid anymore.
Do not be hesitant to ask, this is one of the most common questions plumbers are asked! If they are hesitant to respond, you should take that as a negative sign and move on with your search.
At Integrity Home Solutions, we carry all the required licenses and certifications so you can feel assured that you are protected when you use our services. Call our local Tampa Bay plumbers now!
Can You Provide Any References or Testimonials?
Just because a company is licensed, does not mean they do good work. The last thing you want to be doing is handling a plumbing issue while dealing with a nightmare of a company.
If you feel comfortable, you can ask for references from some of their most recent jobs. This will give you an idea of how a previous client felt about their experience.
You can also look at HomeAdvisor, Angie’s List, Better Business Bureau, or even Facebook for reviews. These reviews will explain how the customers felt about the company’s overall character, integrity, knowledge, effectiveness, and pricing.
Having high integrity is our core value, not just a name. Don’t take our word for it; see some recent client testimonials, then give our experts a call!
Do You Clean Up the Mess?
While this may sound like a silly question, it is also very important, because a lot of times the answer is not as straightforward as you may think...
Some may leave you unexpectedly stuck with hiring someone else, which means more expenses, stress, and hassle. We let you know what we can and cannot handle for you when we quote the job so you know exactly what to expect from Integrity.
Additionally, always ask if cleanup is included as part of the quote, and if not, ask why. Some companies may charge additional for cleanup after completing the job, and the cost may be worth it—but at least you know what you are getting yourself into instead of being surprised.
Depending on the job, some questions to consider are:
- Will you dispose of an old water heater or toilet?
- Will you repair/re-patch any drywall that was cut to get behind the walls while making repairs? If not, can you refer someone who can?
- Will you clean up any water backups/blockages that were made while your plumber was doing the repairs? Ex. A plumber used a snake to clean up a clog; will you clean up the puddled water and sludge that resulted from the snaking?
How Is Payment Calculated And When Is It Due?
This question has two parts. You will want to know how the quote/payment is assessed and then when do you have to pay it? It is important to know what you are getting into before you agree for them to come out and start the job. You never want a surprise bill or a payment you are not able to pay.
When getting an estimate make sure to ask if it is a flat rate or hourly. And if they are doing an hourly rate, would that include an additional charge for the cost of materials?
Make sure to also ask how the plumber expects to be paid. Are you required to pay before the job starts—which is never a good idea by the way—or can you pay once the work is complete? If it’s a big job, are you eligible for financing the work?
No matter how you pay, make sure you ask for a receipt for proper documentation so they cannot come back later and say you did not pay your invoice.
Do You Guarantee Your Work?
Only the best plumbing companies will stand behind their work and offer some type of guarantee or warranty. Make sure to have everything written down or documented and save it in case there are any issues further down the road with their work. Not all faulty plumbing repairs will be apparent right away, yet another reason to make sure you hire a licensed expert.
You might also want to look at how long the company has been around. What happens if you have a problem in a year, do you feel confident the company will still be in business?
At Integrity Home Solutions we guarantee our products and our work. We care about the quality of our work and want you to feel satisfied with our services. Experience the difference of our reliable local plumbing company. Plus, we’re here for you 24/7 in case of emergency.
