Tips For Choosing Your Perfect Sink

June 23, 2023 by cmpdigital

One of the most important fixtures in your kitchen or bathroom is going to be the sink. Not only is it a practical feature that you use daily, but also it can add some style to your room as well. So whether you realize it or not, you’ll be spending a good amount of time trying to find the perfect one for your home.

While it can be an overwhelming process, with some helpful tips and tricks, you can easily narrow down the search and get the perfect fixture or your needs. Whether you’re building a standalone bar, renovating your kitchen, or replacing your old bathroom sink, there are all kinds of options to create a unique look that fits your style.

What to Look For During New Sink Research

The first step of your project is always going to be to do some research. There are tons of different sinks on the market that can all be used to help your bathroom or kitchen pop. Some of the more common variants include:

  • Undermount Sink: Commonly used in kitchens, an undermount sink is attached underneath your countertops. Generally, on the deeper side, these sinks are perfect for homeowners that love to host as they can easily carry a large number of dishes. Additionally, if you chose to install unique countertops, an undermount sink is the easiest way to get a quality sink that won’t take away from the design.
  • Farmhouse Sink: A farmhouse sink offers a unique look to any kitchen. Like the undermount sink, they’re mountain below the counterline but feature an apron, that faces out. This creates a unique look that can break up any cabinet design. Farmhouse sinks also come in multiple materials like porcelain and copper, which give you an opportunity to customize.
  • Pedestal Sinks: We’ve all seen the classic look of a pedestal sink. These freestanding sinks can be the centerpiece of your new bathroom remodel. Supported by a stylish column, the sink itself is often a reasonable size and takes up less space than a traditional cabinet mount. They also come in a variety of designs for a custom look.

Determining Your Costs

Once you’ve narrowed down the type of sink you want in your home, the next thing to do is narrow down the price.

Sink costs can range greatly, so having a budget is the easiest way to eliminate overly luxurious sinks. Once you have a selection of 4-5 sinks, you can start narrowing things down.

As a general rule of thumb, you can narrow based on pricing and amenities. While a bathroom sink may be cheaper, it may not have the style aesthetics you want. Your goal should always be to find the perfect fixture for your taste and needs.

Finding Your Local Plumbing Store

The final step is to pick up your new bathroom or kitchen sink! Find your local plumbing store to determine which has the sink you want, and always be sure to ask about installation and color variations.
